I’m Michiel Terpelle, an independent graphic designer, type designer and artistic researcher based in Arnhem, the Netherlands. I work with cultural institutions, artists, publishers and collectives to turn ideas into things people can read, use, experience and remember. My practice moves between graphic design, publishing, exhibitions, type design and research, depending on what a project needs.
I see design as more than communication. Every project is a chance to build an infrastructure around an idea: a publication that becomes an archive, an identity that grows with a community, or an exhibition that invites people to participate rather than simply observe. I’m interested in how design shapes authorship, collaboration and collective memory, and how it can create space for stories that might otherwise disappear.
Much of my work is informed by queer ways of thinking: questioning fixed structures, redistributing authorship and imagining different ways of working together. Rather than applying a recognizable style, I try to develop a visual language that grows out of the project itself. Sometimes that results in a typeface, sometimes a book, sometimes a workshop or a public program.
Over the years I’ve worked with museums, publishers, artist-run initiatives, festivals and educational institutions across the Netherlands and Belgium. Recent collaborations include the Queer Collective Workers’ Union, Bebe Books and the Jan van Eyck Academie, alongside projects for Le Guess Who?, Plaatsmaken, Cas-co, 019, Graphic Design Arnhem, the Wim Crouwel Instituut and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Whether I’m designing a publication, developing an exhibition or teaching a workshop, I’m interested in creating work that doesn’t stop at a finished object, but continues to generate conversations, knowledge and new forms of collaboration.

The Queer Agenda is a performative calendar that sells time as fantasy. Priced by the day, it transforms time into money, and money into meaning. Each page is an act—ads, essays, events, and images—all documenting drag as survival, pleasure, and resistance. Born from the C.A.R.E archive, it asks: what can drag do when it sells not the body, but the days?
